School Board Election Report

Both Campbell County Republican and Democrat parties are seeing significant decreases in registered voters. Republicans lost 4549 registered voters after the 2022 election; Democrats lost 312. Only 54% of registered Republicans voted in the 2024 Primary; 36% of registered Democrats did.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

As political campaigns become more deceitful and malicious, and extremist government leaders bring more chaos to our institutions, Wyomingites are choosing to disengage when it comes to voting. This is alarming because data from past elections show that low voter turnout benefits extremist candidates who appeal to a small base of energized voters, instead of moderate candidates who try to serve a more diverse group of constituents.

While voter turnout will increase this upcoming general election (because of the presidential race), down ballot voting for school board, city council, and so on will suffer from undervotes. WHAT CAN WE DO? Encourage people to vote down ballot in this year’s general election. Keep family and friends informed about local races. Consider hosting a FRIENDBANKING NIGHT to support the candidates you know and trust. Now is not the time to be shy–it’s time to reach out and remind people to vote this November 5 at the Cam-plex.
